*March 7, 1863 - Hon. C.V. Eskridge, as a Representative of Kansas, introduced a bill providing for the establishing of a State Normal School at Emporia.  On March 7, 1863 it passed and became a law.

St. Patrick's Parade March 14, 2009

The 14th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade will be held  March 14 in downtown Emporia, beginning at 1:00 P.M.  The parade will start at 4th Avenue and finish at 12th Avenue.  Everyone is encouraged to join in the fun and participate.  Prizes for the best float will be given in four different categories.
