The Taste of Emporia Q&A – Flint Hills Beverage

This is Part 3 in a series of The Taste of Emporia vendor Q&As that will lead up to the event on April 18th!

Becky Siljenberg is the Import, Craft, & Specialties Sales Associate for Flint Hills Beverage.

Q: What can you briefly tell us about Flint Hills Beverage?

A:   We are a beer/non alcohol wholesaler who proudly distributes Anheuser Busch products as well as several large, small, local craft breweries and imported products.

Q: What has your experience been like at previous Taste of Emporia events?

A: We love the Taste of Emporia event! Having the event in April works out really well as it gives us a chance to feature new products in our portfolio, as well as sample some of the local favorites.

Q: What do you look forward to most at this year’s Taste of Emporia?

A: I feel like we have some great new beers this year that I’m dying for people to try. I love to hear the feedback from the tasters, which helps me sell the products into the retail accounts. As a saleswoman,  the weeks after are always fun to see how much the Taste of Emporia helps with pull through out in the market!

Q: What products should this year’s participants expect from you? Anything new?

A: We have several new items that we want to sample. Brands from Anheuser Busch, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Cider Boys, and a few more!

Q: What new products do you have coming available that we should know about?

A: As far as Anheuser Busch we have 3 flavors of Mix Tails –Hurricane, Long Island Tea, and Fire Walker, Oculto, and Shock Top Lemon Shandy

Sierra Nevada- Year Round beers called Nooner Pilsner, Hop Hunter IPA, and summer seasonal Summerfest, along with their Summer Variety 12 pk is new this year.

New Belgium- New Summer Seasonal Skinny dip will be here any day

Deschutes- Twilight Summer Seasonal will be here any day

Tallgrass- 16 Bit Double Pale Ale 16oz 4pk cans, Halcyon summer seasonal will be here anytime

Abita- Strawberry Harvest is here

Odell- St Lupulin will be here soon

Uinta – New brewery for us – they have Hop Nosh IPA, Detour Double IPA, and BaBa Black Lager

Ciderboys- Spring Seasonal Raspberry Smash, Summer Seasonal Peach is here, and Pineapple will be here soon. We won’t be sampling all of these at the Taste, but I wanted folks to be on the lookout!

Casey Woods, Executive Director

Before accepting the director position in March of 2009, Casey worked in both retail and agricultural jobs in the family businesses. A lifelong resident of the Emporia Area, Casey was a ten year volunteer for Emporia Main Street prior to his appointment as director. During that time he served as the board president and chair of the Economic Vitality Committee.

Casey also serves as a partner in PlaceMakers, LLC, a consulting firm that routinely works with both large and small communities, and their businesses, to promote sustainable economic growth through community and economic development practices. Casey consults with businesses, organizations and communities to understand their market capacity and fill vacant spaces. He has been involved in two projects that included crowdfunding as a part of their overall business funding strategies, Radius Brewing and Twin Rivers Winery & Gourmet Shoppe.
